Gigi's Story

2-Year-Old Black Labrador – GIGI
Beautiful, Sweet – AKC Registered / Service Dog Potential

Gigi just turned 2 years old on February 1st, and here is her story.

I am a dog trainer in Lakeland, FL, and a long-time client of mine (over 10 years) had a litter from his male and female Labradors. Knowing that I had just lost my own Labrador of 10 years and was having a difficult time, he offered me two puppies in exchange for training three of his puppies. I had previously trained his adult dogs as well. All of the dogs, including the puppies, are AKC registered.

After completing the training, I kept one puppy and placed the other. At the time, keeping both was simply too much for me emotionally.

Gigi was placed with a gentleman who needed a service dog. Before she left, I trained her as a Service Dog in Training.

About two weeks ago, he contacted me and explained that his health had declined and he could no longer properly care for her. He asked if I would take her back, and of course I did.

When Gigi returned, she wasn’t quite the same dog. It appears she spent a significant amount of time crated. When she sees people now, she becomes very excited β€” not aggressive in any way, just overly enthusiastic from a lack of regular interaction and activity. She simply hasn’t had the structure, engagement, and consistency she needs.

She is extremely sweet, loving, and playful, and she absolutely loves to play fetch. There is not an ounce of aggression in her.

Gigi deserves a stable, committed home where she will receive the attention, love, and consistency she needs to thrive.

Placement Options:

β€’ AKC Registered (Not Spayed): She can remain intact and go to a responsible home that may wish to breed in the future.

β€’ Spayed Option: If she is spayed and placed in the right home, I will re-evaluate and complete her Service Dog certification after six months, once she has settled and rebuilt consistency.

(For clarity, the previous owner was supposed to have her spayed as part of the original service dog agreement but did not complete that step.)

Gigi is a beautiful, affectionate girl who simply needs the right home and someone willing to invest in her.

Located in Lakeland, FL.

Suggestions,

Gigi will need a handler who is comfortable with a strong dog. She can be very enthusiastic and powerful when she gets excited. However, I fully believe that once she settles into a stable home with structure and regular interaction, she will calm down significantly.

From what I can see, I don’t believe she received much attention over the past year and was likely crated for long periods of time, which has contributed to her excitement when she sees people now.

With consistency, exercise, and engagement, she should settle nicely and show the wonderful dog she truly is.
